Project YV-14 Build Part 2

This evenings session focused in on building the air frame, sorting out the rear drop hardware which was tested many times over by my very excited son, setting up the battery tray and GoPro location.

So here we go with some photos and descriptions of the work we did.

The rear cargo area is now finished but did require some changes to the plane.

Rear section top as directed in the plans.

Ramps in the rear cargo area so we don’t have to put the nose up to drop.

We did add a lower cap to the tail section. Looked better but added a problem.

Cargo door open.

With the lower cap I did have to add a cover or the cargo would end up in the trail.

Oh I suspect we will be making longer wings to handle this load.

Back section complete.

Nose complete.

Battery tray.

We’ve seen some nice footage from a GoPro on this style of plane.

I had considered using the base the camera comes with but to much weight.

Here is the POV. A little high but the nose will house the PFV kit.
I’ll paint the area seen by the camera matt black avoid lens flares.
Still looks neat.

Wing test. Needed a section in so I could work on the cap for front.

There is a better example of what I’ve come up with.

Next plane maybe I’ll work both cameras into the nose.
IMG_3333

Still working on how to secure the covers but most likely I’ll just tape it.

Supports for the camera.

And the view of the camera.

Still lots left to do.
