CG Balance & 160 Grams

To be honest we all thought the YC-14 was tail heavy but then I watched a video from FliteTest and decided that was not the case.

Tail Heavy Plane – Flite Tip

Step 1 build CG test gear.

2×4, 1×1, wooden dowels and rubber bands.

Step 2 measure. Wing is 11.5″ wide. 11.5 @ 33% = 9.6cm. Just because I like to mess with math.

Marked and ready to test.

NOSE down!

And that is with no GoPro in the bloody nose.

On my marks. Yep.

IMG_7254

Starting the process. I’m not going to mess with the internals at this time.

Just adding weight to the tail to see what happens.

IMG_7257

A lot of weight.

IMG_7258

Put the GoPro in just to see how much I really needed.

To answer the question 160 grams right on the back of the tail. Yikes.

A little nose up but that is fine.

So this could explain the plane not being able to lift off during the run way tests.

More work tomorrow.
