YC-14 Airframe Retirement

November 3, 2013 Leave a comment Go to comments

The poor YC-14 had no chance today. All that work for nothing.

Another nose drive into the turf. This one proved to the end for the airframe it is simple to bend up now to patch.

The wing is fine.

That said the power pods came clear off this time.

The nose was completely ripped apart. I am going to return the much stronger style that the YC was born with.

The GoPro was in there but it was fine.

The air frame buckled toward the rear cargo hatch area and issues can be seen up front.

Similar issues toward the back on the other side.

Cracks along the inside leading toward the tail section.

Example of some of the buckling.

And the big tail killing crack. Even if I could repair it I don’t think I’d trust it.

I will strip the electronics and parts off the YC this evening and move on to a new winter plane but don’t worry. The YC will return for spring 2014.
