AJR-48 Tip Stall

November 17, 2013 Leave a comment Go to comments

After spending sometime adding front weight to the plane to correct some of the tail heavy issues a tip stall on final before landing more or less ended the AJR-48 program.

The elliptical wing is pure evil to me. I will not build another plane like this.

– Hard landing results.

– Glad I had added a piece of velcro to the gopro.

IMG_4087

– Outside of the damaged side it does not look bad.

IMG_4089

– That said I’m done trying to make this thing fly. The YC was so much better handling.

IMG_4091

– Poor AJR-48.

IMG_4093

– You never were meant to be.

IMG_4095

– Looks like something out of a WWWII movie.

– Technical review.

– Left with damage to the body and wing. This is mainly due to the wing not being a complete structure.

Will not do this modified wing again.

IMG_7662

– Cracked before the rear spar.

IMG_7663

– Lots of damage inside the pod area.

IMG_7664

– Support mount came away from the front spar which I suspect is bend. Will go up to a thicker size.

IMG_7665

– Nose took another hit. Luckily I’d reenforced the battery pod last night.

IMG_7666

– Pod blanking plate had damage to the mounting points.

IMG_7667

– Bottom view of the damage to the side and ESC mounts.

IMG_7668

– Right side motor pod took a hit.

IMG_7669

– Next plane will have a top wing and that should help with clearance for the props.

IMG_7670

– Sad looking plane.

IMG_7671

– Lots of forward damage. I also feel the paint make the paper more brittle.

IMG_7673

– The next plane will have a wider profile to ensure I can strengthen the area where the pod goes.

IMG_7674

– Poster board top sections works great. Will redo that idea for sure. Maybe the same for the lower area.

IMG_7675

– To bad because it looked like a nice plane just to unstable for my tastes.

IMG_7676

– Time for a new design and parts inspections/removal.
